This is a compelling and honest story, Karen. Thank you for sharing it.
And on the AI-generated image: what bothers me is not the presence of the map, it's the fact that the car is pointed _across_ the road rather than _along_ it! Not a good omen.
Thank you! And re the image, lololol...I did notice the questionable position of the car perpendicular to the highway. All this buzz about ChatGPT and it doesn't even understand what cars are supposed to do in relation to highways!
Great post Karen! I love that you moved across the country because of a dream, and even more than that, I love that it worked out really well for you and your daughter.
I look forward to reading more about your adventures!
thank you kaila! i've been following your substack and your adventures in valencia so far. i hope things are getting better there. i was looking at valencia as one of the top cities to move to but i ultimately couldn't choose it because the digital nomad visa requirements don't work for my situation.
I can relate to so much of this especially the geographic bouncing around and never quite feeling at home anywhere. I just did the downsize/sell and am in limbo in Washington state currently though *almost* did this “figure out what’s next” in Sebastopol. West Sonoma County being the closest to home I’ve ever felt and think I detoured here to not be lulled back into old familiar roads. Look forward to hearing where you decide to check out, I’m finally moving closer to my Eurovision too. Best to you.
Thank you Bella! What a small world to encounter someone here who knows Sebastopol! Most people outside the Bay look at you like your nuts when you say the name of the town. :) West County will always be home for my daughter. :)

Either that or it has a very poor opinon of female drivers.

I didn't even notice that at first - whoops!
hahaha, whoops indeed! or whoops and then smack!

Ah right, well glad you found a visa that worked in an equally charming country!
